Becas para estudiantes guatemaltecos

As every year, Guatemalan students can look forward to the launching of the foundation scholarships given by the Bosch Gutiérrez family.  In an alliance with the universities of Guatemala, which co-sponsor this important financial aid fund, the list of fifty young people who benefit from this program, one of the most important in the country, is presented.

It is a competitive process that provides full scholarships to very talented students of limited resources to pursue a university degree at the institution of their choice.  This was a special year because not only was the number of beneficiaries increased to 50 and scholarships were provided to students both in Guatemala City and in the interior of the country, but the program now bears the name of “Isabel Gutiérrez de Bosch”, an extraordinary woman and one of the main creators of the program.

This effort has been the result of the conviction of its precursors that education is an engine that contributes to the development of the country and transforms the lives of individuals and communities.  It is imperative to recognize the vision of the members of the Bosch Gutiérrez and Gutiérrez Mayorga families, as well as the shareholders and members of Corporación Multi Inversiones, whose support has been crucial to the success of this initiative.

More than twenty years have passed since this fund was born, when, as a result of the support given to the Science Olympiad, the Juan Bautista Gutiérrez Foundation decided to support the first beneficiary of the program, a talented student from Quetzaltenango who would go on to study at UVG.  Throughout its life, the program has supported 274 young people. Of these, half have graduated and half are still studying.

Fifty new scholarship recipients have been added to this select group. They are all part of a select group of Guatemalan students who have shown themselves to be committed, responsible, dedicated and upstanding individuals. The universities attest to the valuable contributions these young people have made to the university communities, setting a positive example for their peers.

As Juan José Gutiérrez, President of the Fundación Juan Bautista Gutiérrez and Chairman of CMI-Alimentos, pointed out during the presentation of the new group of scholarship recipients, the program is evidence of everyone’s strong conviction in the importance of education.

He highlighted the impact of the tenacious work of Isabel Gutiérrez de Bosch and Esperanza Mayorga de Gutiérrez at the head of the Juan Bautista Gutiérrez Foundation in shaping this initiative.  Their vision was fundamental for the creation of the fund and for making all the members of the families and the corporation aware of its importance.

He also highlighted the joy of having shared with Doña Isabelita, in her last days of life, the Foundation’s decision that the scholarship program will henceforth bear her name.  The representatives of the universities celebrate this wise decision, as they attest to the commendable work of this prominent Guatemalan, as well as her close accompaniment to the young scholarship recipients, who always found in her an inexhaustible source of support and inspiration.
