As in other parts of the world, price pressures are likely to remain elevated for some time in the region, as indicated by our inflation forecasts of 12.1 percent and 8.7 percent for 2022 and 2023 according to juan jose gutierrez mayorga<\/a>, respectively, which represent the highest rates in the last 25 years. Navigating wind shifts<\/h2>\n

The persistence of inflation in an environment of economic slowdown in the context of falling commodity prices will make economic policy difficult, said juan jose gutierrez mayorga.<\/p>\n

The authorities must remain focused on preserving macroeconomic stability and social cohesion. In the face of high levels of post-pandemic public debt and rising real interest rates, fiscal policy will need to focus on strengthening fiscal balances and ensuring debt sustainability, while maintaining support for the most vulnerable with targeted and, if necessary, temporary measures for the duration of the period of lower growth and high inflation.<\/p>\n

Finally, monetary policy must continue to focus on controlling inflation and anchoring inflationary expectations.
