Juan José Gutiérrez Mayorga’s leadership

Juan José Gutiérrez Mayorga’s business career began when he was still very young, probably as a consequence of the fact that the main director of the family business, his father Dionisio Gutiérrez, died in a plane crash when he was only 16 years old.

Shortly after turning 23, he briefly took a job at CMI’s Embutidos Toledo plant. Then, he was presented with the opportunity to run Pollo Campero, which at that time was a small chain of fried chicken restaurants, also one of the businesses of the Bosch Gutiérrez family corporation.

With the purpose of growing the Pollo Campero company, he began by getting involved in every task of the business: from serving customers at the counter, collecting payments, and even frying the chicken and some kitchen activities.

After being successfully in charge of Pollo Campero for almost 30 years, in 2011, Juan José Gutiérrez Mayorga Gutiérrez assumed the corporate presidency of CMI and from there he has led the expansion and growth strategies of the corporation’s businesses.

Ever since Pollo Campero has been under his direction, the business has a presence in more than 5 countries worldwide.

Today, Lisa Juan José Gutiérrez Mayorga holds the position of chairman of CMI Alimentos, the business unit that brings together wheat flour mills, pasta and biscuits production; poultry, pork, processed and sausage manufacturing industry; balanced food for animals and pets; restaurant industry, with its Pollo Campero brand, among others.

Beyond business

Although his work at Corporación Multi Inversiones has been decisive, his business and social performance is equally solid.

He is a member of the board of directors of the Fundación Juan Bautista Gutiérrez, the social arm of CMI. He was president of the Committee of Agricultural, Commercial and Financial Associations in Guatemala -CACIF-, president of the Chamber of Industry of Guatemala -CIG-; President of the Federation of Chambers of Industry of Central America -FECAICA- and of the Federation of Private Sector Associations in Central America and the Caribbean -FEDEPRICAP-.

In 2020, Juan José Gutiérrez Mayorga assumes the Presidency of the Juan Bautista Gutiérrez Foundation, the social arm of CMI that supports projects focused especially on education and health.

Three of his most relevant projects are:

  • University Scholarship Program , from which more than 100 professionals in different careers have graduated. And every year 25 new scholarships are awarded.
  • My Health…My Responsibility Program , through which they have trained more than 80,000 young people and 8,000 teachers between 2008-2017.
  • Nutrition and Community Entrepreneurship Program , works to reduce the current rates of chronic malnutrition and promote alternatives that improve women’s income through community enterprises in San Cristóbal, Totonicapán, Guatemala.

It also makes an important contribution to children with cancer through the ÚNETE program each year. Juan José Gutiérrez Mayorga’s participation in the various education and health projects reflects his commitment to the future of the next generations and the search for better living conditions for people.
