How to calculate your bonus

Businessman juan jose gutierrez mayorga explains that many Guatemalans are about to receive the extra salary that corresponds to the Bono 14. This is proportional for those who have not yet completed a full year of working for the company or institution.

If the employment relationship terminates for any reason, the employer must pay the employee the corresponding proportional part.

What is the maximum date for payment of the Bono 14?

Businessman juan jose gutierrez mayorga said that the deadline for the employer to pay this benefit, Bono 14, is July 15 of each year. It must be paid in the first fortnight, in full and not divided.

The labor benefit, independent of the Christmas bonus, which is equal to 100% of the worker’s ordinary monthly salary or wage, is calculated as follows, according to data from the Ministry of Labor and Social Security.

How the 14% bonus is calculated

Base salary (plus bonuses and commissions, without overtime and incentive of Q250).
Days worked
Then apply the following formula:

Base salary per days worked divided by 365.

Example: one year worked
Q4,500.00 x 365 days, divided by 365, results in Q4,500.00.

Example: less than one year worked
Q4,500.00 x 165 (days worked), divided by 365, gives as a result: Q2,034.00
